AIS’17: Event Wrap

ais17 logoAIS’17 took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 21 May – 2 June 2017. Around 640 people from 68 countries took part in training sessions, workshops, tutorials, policy development discussions, plenary sessions, elections and networking events. The meeting was organised by AFRINIC and AfNOG with the collaboration of AF* organisations. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, partners and donors, and the attendees. We look forward to seeing you all in Lagos Nigeria, for the next AFRINIC Meeting, AFRINIC-27, from 27 November to 2 December.

AIS’17 saw several interesting presentations on a wide variety of topics on IPv6 deployment in Africa, Peering, Internet Shutdowns amongst others.   • AFRINIC-26

The AFRINIC-26 Public Policy Meeting was held on 31 May. Eight policy proposals were discussed and the policy Internet Number Resources review by AFRINIC - AFPUB-2016-GEN-001-DRAFT-04 reached consensus. The remaining policy proposals did not reach consensus and went back to the rpd mailing list for further discussion.

On 1 June the AFRINIC Annual General Members Meeting was held and saw updates from the AFRINIC Board with elections for Board Seats 3, 4 and 8. Subramanian Moonesamy (Mauritius), Christian Bope (DRC Congo), and Serge Illunga (DRC Congo) are the new elected members on the Board.

On 2 June the AIS’17 was concluded with several important presentations on ICANN’s Africa strategy, dotAfrica journey and launch, Identifier Technology Health Indicators and .Post the next generation postal network.

Over 640 people attended the meeting, with more than 70% of attendees being first time meeting attendees. Forty African nations were represented alongside 28 other economies from around the world. More detailed meeting statistics can be found here.
