AFRINIC IPv6 Factsheet
What is IPv6? IPv6 stands for “Internet Protocol Version 6”, the successor of IPv4 – “Internet Protocol Version 4”, on which most of the Internet currently runs. It has been created as the long-term solution to forecasted IPv4 depletion.

AFRINIC is the Regional Internet Registry responsible for the management and distribution of Internet resources in the African region. All allocation and assignment of Internet number resources must also be consistent with the goals of the Internet Registry System: aggregation, conservation and registration.
Policies provide the guidelines determining the allocation, usage and management of critical Internet number resources.

WHOIS Handout
This is where all information related to registered resources is stored. This includes information about Autonomous System Numbers, IP addresses, organisations that are associated with these resources and related Points of Contact (POC) and routing.
The information in the AFRINIC Database is available to the public for agreed Internet operational purposes but is under copyright. A web interface for whois is available, and you can also query the AFRINIC whois database using a standard whois client pointing to whois.afrinic.net (standard TCP port 43). Resource certification is a security framework for verifying the association between Internet number resources (IP and ASN) and their rightful holders. It is aimed at adding a verifiable form of a holder’s current right to use those resources over the Internet.
The main component of Resource certification is the Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) through which certificates are issued to members to match their resources to a public key.
