As AFRINIC marks its 21st anniversary on 8 April 2026, this is an important moment to recognise the journey, resilience, and shared mission of the African Internet community. Over the past 21 years, the commitment of our members and stakeholders has enabled AFRINIC to establish itself as a trusted steward of Internet number resources for Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
We express our sincere gratitude for your continued support. Together, we have gone through difficult periods, faced many challenges, and continued to move forward with determination. Your trust and solidarity have enabled AFRINIC to remain faithful to its mission and attentive to the needs of our region.
I would also like to acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of AFRINIC’s staff, whose sustained efforts continue to move the organisation forward, often under demanding circumstances. The new Board of Directors also remains fully committed to promoting governance based on transparency, accountability, and trust.
The progress achieved over the years has been built on the active participation of AFRINIC’s members and the broader community. Your contributions to policy development, technical discussions, governance processes, and community initiatives continue to strengthen AFRINIC’s legitimacy and relevance.
On the occasion of this anniversary, I encourage all AFRINIC members to continue playing an active role in the organisation’s governance. In this regard, please ensure that your organisation has designated its official representative for the Special General Members’ Meeting (SGMM), scheduled to be held online on 14 April 2026.
Your voice matters. By taking part in these processes, you contribute to AFRINIC’s stability, sustainability, and good governance, while also strengthening the multistakeholder model that has supported its work since its establishment.
Finally, as we look to the future, let us remember that AFRINIC belongs to all of us. Let us continue to protect this organisation and build on the strong foundations laid over the past 21 years, so as to promote a resilient, inclusive, and thriving Internet ecosystem for Africa.
Thank you once again for your trust, your partnership, and your continued commitment to AFRINIC.
Prof. Adewale Adedokun
Chairman of the AFRINIC Board of Directors
