The 2019 Nominations Committee is pleased to announce that the NRO-NC/ASO-AC Nomination process is open. One NRO-NC/ASO AC position is up for election by the AFRINIC community to serve a three-year term from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022. The seat is currently held by Omo Oaiya.

Responsibilities

Under the ICANN ASO Memorandum of Understanding, the ASO AC’s responsibilities include:

  1. Undertaking a role in the global policy development process.
  2. Defining procedures for the selection of individuals to serve on other ICANN bodies, in particular on the ICANN Board, and implementing any roles assigned to the AC in such procedures. The ASO AC selects ICANN Board seats 9 and 10.
  3. Providing advice to the ICANN Board on number resource allocation policy, in conjunction with the RIRs.

Criteria and qualifications for eligibility

  • All nominations (including self-nominations) must be supported by a minimum of two AFRINIC community members; the two individuals must not work for the same organization.
  • No person shall be appointed as a member of the NRO-NC/ASO-AC if he or she is a person who:          
    • is under 18 years of age;                     
    • is an undischarged bankrupt;
    • is not a natural person; or                 
    • has been adjudged to have been of unsound mind 

A nominee shall:

  • Be familiar with the AFRINIC Policy Development Process;
  • Have participated in at any AFRINIC activity time
  • Be able to demonstrate that his/her activities are in the best interest of the African Internet Community.

General expectations

  • Be available and be committed to actively participate in  one teleconference every month, and possibly 3 in-person meetings every year (one ICANN meeting and 2 AFRINIC public policy meetings).
  • Provide feedback to the AFRINIC Community on the activities of the NRO-NC/ASO-AC.

Note: It is expected that the proposed candidates should be able to attend (in-person or remotely) the upcoming AFRINIC 30 Meeting, taking place in Kampala, Uganda on  20th June 2019 (election day), where they will have an opportunity to introduce themselves to members and make a short presentation. The 2019 Nominations Committee is pleased to announce that the Nomination process for two co-chairs of the AFRINIC Policy Development Working Group (PDWG) is now open.  

In order to re-establish the sequence of two-year staggered terms given in Article 3.3 of the Consolidated Policy Manual, one seat will be filled for a two-year term, and one seat will be filled for a one-year term.  The open seats are:

  • Seat 1, to serve a two-year term from mid-2019 to mid-2021, currently held by Dewole Ajao.·      
  • Seat 2,  to serve a one-year term from mid-2019 to mid-2020, currently held by Sami Salih.

We are pleased to invite nominations for candidates for the above seats to serve a term starting from the election-day for the period specified above.

Responsibilities

PDWG co-chairs are volunteers selected by the community as provided for in the current Policy Development Process (PDP). Their responsibilities are as follows:

  • Chairing Public Policy Meeting sessions and evaluating consensus or lack thereof.
  • Creating post-meeting policy reports (and meeting minutes).
  • Sending notifications for Last Call and evaluating consensus or lack thereof.
  • Writing reports to the board to recommend ratification of policy proposals that gained consensus.
  • Evaluating emergencies that necessitate varying the normal policy development process.
  • Moderating discussions on the mailing list and at face to face in accordance with the AFRINIC Code of Conduct.
  • Representing the AFRINIC PDWG community at other RIR community public policy meetings in-person or remotely. 

 

A nominee shall:·       

  • Be familiar with the AFRINIC Policy Development Process;·  
  • Have participated in the AFRINIC policy development working group·       
  • Be able to demonstrate that his/her activities are in the best interest of the African Internet Community.    
  • Be able to travel to the two annual AFRINIC public policy meetings. 

 

Criteria and qualifications for eligibility

A nominee shall be nominated by one (1) member of the Policy Development Working Group and seconded by one (1) member of the Policy Development Working Group. A member of  the Policy Development Working Group can nominate no more than one candidate and can second any number of candidates.

No person shall be appointed as a PDWG co-chair if he or she is a person who: 

  1. is under 18 years of age; 
  2. is an undischarged bankrupt; 
  3. is not a natural person; or 
  4. has been adjudged to have been of unsound mind

The seats are open to individuals residing within the AFRINIC service region.
