CEO's Monthly Updates

Dear Colleagues,

Warm greetings, I did not provide an update last month as we were in full gear during AIS20.

The event brought over 500 delegates around the virtual table to discuss Internet growth and development, both regionally and globally.

I would like to once again thank you all for your contributions and participation towards a successful AIS20.

In the meantime, we have also been busy with the projects previously communicated online training sessions, RPKI, the WHOIS accuracy, and MyAFRINICv2, to mention a few.

However, in this message, I wanted to focus a little more on the Strategic Plan 2021–2023.

We are currently in the final stage of approving the plan after collecting your feedback. We aim to focus on growing into a customer-centric organization as we also work towards the review of our business model. I have followed the discussions on the members' list, and I am glad to see that our strategic plan is aligned with our membership's recommendations.

I have tasked our stakeholder engagement team to pilot a few engagements with our membership and the community to discuss means of improving your experience in dealing with AFRINIC and exploring avenues of better collaboration with our growing membership in the countries your operations.

For those interested in partnering on hosting and organizing these pilot engagements and bringing them to your local communities, please reach out to us at

Last but not least, I would like to say farewell to George Nyabuga, AFRINIC's head of communications. He served AFRINIC and its community, and organizing a smooth AIS20 during this challenging time was his last task as AFRINIC staff. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Best regards,

Eddy Kayihura,
AFRINIC CEO

Dear Colleagues,

Warm greetings. Please find below the updates for the past month:

  1. Strategic Plan 2021-2023: We appreciate the feedback that you provided on the survey regarding the development of AFRINIC's next Strategic Plan. We have been intensively working on preparing the plan through different meetings, workshops, and interviews. We also had an online board retreat to reflect further on the key objectives and initiatives for our organisation. We will publish the final draft at the end of August and will discuss it during AIS20 before its adoption.
  2. AIS20: We are progressing well in our preparations for the first online AIS event in mid-September. The draft program is available at https://2020.internetsummit.africa/en/agenda/programme. We hope and wish to "see" you all at the event. There have been some questions about elections in the online setup. Moving forward with online elections is a positive step at this challenging time. I would like to applaud everyone who has given their time and feedback to this process.
  3. WHOIS Accuracy: The team is still working on the resource audit, and the Interim injunction case is still pending before the Mauritian Supreme Court. We are aiming to complete the Audit exercise by the end of this calendar year.
  4. Partnerships: We have signed 2 MOUs in the past month. A collaboration framework with ISOC related to Internet measurement and resilience and one with the Nigerian Communication Commission, which will focus on IPv6 deployment in Nigeria. We are eager to see the benefits that will accrue from these new partnerships.

Kind regards and keep safe,

Take care,

Eddy Kayihura,
AFRINIC CEO
