The AFRINIC Internet Development Programs envisions a secure and accessible Internet for sustainable digital growth in Africa.
Our objective for these programs is to increase investment in Internet development in the AFRINIC Service Region through capacity building, research and technical collaboration, and any related Internet initiatives.

The AFRINIC Fellowship Programme is a critical initiative that aims to increase capacity and promote knowledge sharing in the field of Internet technology in Africa. The program is intended to give technologists the opportunity to collaborate with experts in the field and gain exposure to the latest trends and developments in Internet technology.

The Internet has emerged to become a fundamental tool for economic, social, and cultural development globally and in Africa. As such, we believe that building technical communities is key to advancing the development of the Internet in the region.

Over the past decade, the Internet has transformed education, healthcare, and public services, bringing the benefits of digital connectivity to millions of people across the continent.
Diversity in ICT
Program
Despite the rapid growth of Internet usage in Africa, there is still a significant underrepresentation of women, girls, elders, and people with disabilities in ICT initiatives on the continent. This digital divide is not only an issue of fairness, but it also limits the potential for innovation and economic growth across the region. At AFRINIC, we recognize the importance of addressing this issue and have taken action by implementing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 9.

The internet landscape in Africa has been transformed by the power of collaboration! A diverse group of stakeholders including Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) and regional associations have worked together to create a strong and interconnected network. And the good news is that there's more to come! New organizations are eager to build innovative IXPs, which will boost the overall efficiency of the Internet in the countries and in the region.
