News

On 13 January 2020, AFRINIC approved an IPv4 prefix that resulted in no more than a /11 of non-reserved space to be available in the Final /8. The only available prefix as shown in the AFRINIC extended statistics published on 14 January 2020 is 102.192.0.0/11. We are therefore announcing that, as per Section 5.4.3.1 Exhaustion Phase 1 of the AFRINIC Consolidated Policy Manual, Phase 2 of IPv4 Exhaustion has begun.

Thank you for your participation and feedback during the session on the assessment of the current Strategic Plan on Wednesday, 4 December 2019, during AFRINIC 31 in Luanda, Angola.

As discussed, we are in the process of developing AFRINIC’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025. We have already had an assessment of the AFRINIC Strategic Plan 2016-2020. The assessment was meant to determine whether the objectives set in the AFRINIC Strategic Plan 2016-2020 had been achieved and prepare the way for the formulation of the next five-year plan. Please see the Strategic Plan 2016-2020 assessment, and time plan for the development of the Strategic Plan 2021-2025 at https://afrinic.net/strategy#2016-2020

To further promote active participation and inclusion, members are requested to critically interrogate the report, and contribute to the next Strategic Plan. You can send in your views by email ceo@afrinic.net until 29 February 2020. AFRINIC belongs to all of us, and your active participation in the Strategic Plan development process will contribute to both the success of AFRINIC and the development of a resilient, reliable and accessible Internet in Africa.

We look forward to your usual cooperation and participation in this process.

Yours sincerely,

Eddy Kayihura

Chief Executive Officer, AFRINIC
