hallWe share with you AFRINIC's news highlights for the month of June.

 

From 29 May to 10 June, AFRINIC organised in collaboration with AIS partners and local host BOCRA the AIS'16 Meeting in Gaborone Botswana. The Meeting gathered over 360 participants who attended the numerous training and conference sessions.

On 10 June, AFRINIC announced the result of the Elections for its new Directors, NRO NC members and PDWG Co-chairs.

The Board elections took place on Thursday 09 June 2016 during the Annual General Members' Meeting (AGMM) in Gaborone. The following candidates were elected  for a  three-year term from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2019.

  •  Western Africa:   Sunday Folayan (Nigeria)
  •  Northern Africa:   Haitham Z. El Nakhal  (Egypt)
  •  Non geographical: Seun Ojedeji (Nigeria)

We also announced the results of the election which took place on 08 June for one PDWG co-chair position.  

Sami Salih from Sudan was re-elected to serve an additional 2 year term (until June 2018). During the same Policy Development Working Group meeting, Seun Ojedeji resigned and Dewole Ajao was appointed to complete the remainder of Seun Ojedeji's term as PDWG co-chair (until June 2017).

An election to elect the AFRINIC region representative to the ASO-AC / NRO-NC was also held on Thursday 09 June and Omo Oaiya was elected to serve a 3 year term from January 2017 to December 2019, replacing Fiona Asonga whose term will be ending at the end of 2016.

Additionally on same day we covered the communique of the NTIA who announced that  the IANA Stewardship Proposal has met required criteria. This was an important milestone in the U.S. Government’s effort to complete the transition of the Internet’s domain name system. AFRINIC thanked the CRISP Team for their effort in the whole transition process.

On 29 June the Regional Internet Registries and ICANN signed the SLA for the Internet Numbering Services. This agreement documents the arrangements for provision by ICANN of IANA numbering services, after the IANA stewardship transition which is expected to occur on 30 September 2016.
