AFRINIC has taken note of communications circulated by the unincorporated organisation, Number Resource Society, also known as “NRS”, regarding alleged irregularities in AFRINIC’s September 2025 Board Election, and in which recipients are being asked to confirm whether they registered to vote and whether they cast a ballot.
AFRINIC wishes to remind its Resource Members, community, and stakeholders of the following:
1. AFRINIC’s commitment to election integrity
The AFRINIC Board election of September 2025 was conducted pursuant to a court mandate and under the supervision of the Electoral Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius, acting in accordance with a Judge’s Order dated 05 September 2025.
The election process was fully transparent, and all related information is publicly accessible at - https://elections.afrinic.net/
AFRINIC wishes to inform its Resource Members, community, and stakeholders that matters relating to this election are currently before the courts following actions initiated by Cloud Innovation Ltd and therefore sub judice. In simple terms, “sub judice” means that because the case is currently pending before the courts, one must avoid public comments or actions that could influence the outcome or be viewed as interfering with the judicial process. For this reason, stakeholders and the wider community are advised to exercise caution and refrain from any actions or commentary that could be construed as contemptuous or as part of a coordinated effort intended to cause prejudice to AFRINIC.
2. No mandate granted to NRS
NRS is not a member of AFRINIC, and AFRINIC has neither mandated nor authorised NRS, or any other external party, to conduct any verification exercise or investigation concerning AFRINIC elections.
Any communication requesting personal confirmation of voter registration or participation has been sent without AFRINIC’s endorsement.
3. Protection of member and voter information
AFRINIC is bound by applicable laws including data protection and confidentiality obligations, as well as its own internal policies, to safeguard the personal information of its Resource Members and voters.
To be absolutely clear: AFRINIC does not share member contact details with any external party, including NRS or any organisation engaging in unsolicited communication.
4. Unsolicited communications (spam) from NRS
AFRINIC is aware that several members have expressed frustration at the repeated, unsolicited emails being circulated by NRS. These messages are spam, and AFRINIC unequivocally condemns the sending of such unauthorised and intrusive communications.
AFRINIC stands advised that in several of AFRINIC’s service regions, the sending of unsolicited bulk emails without consent is illegal under national anti-spam or data protection laws. AFRINIC does not endorse these practices and distances itself entirely from any organisation engaging in them.
Members are advised not to respond to such emails and not to provide any personal or voting information to entities that are not formally sanctioned by AFRINIC.
