The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implemention of software solutions that result in high quality and easy-to-use applications and software products. 



1) Job Background


(A) Job Purpose/Mission of Role

To design, develop, test, and implement software solutions that result in high-quality and easy-to-use applications and software products. 

  • Reports to Head of Value Added Services
  • Number of Direct Reports: N/A


(B) Essential Qualifications and Work Experience

  • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or an equivalent amount of technical coursework and work experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience in the related field.
  • Ability to develop using Java and the Spring Framework.
  • Ability to develop RESTful APIs.

3) Key Responsibilities

Write custom applications
  • Make use of productivity frameworks.
  • Develop and integrate applications using RESTful and other APIs.
  • Work with Source Control Management software.
  • Meet software development deadlines and project goals.
  • Ensure all software applications comply with organisational quality standards.
  • Ensure all codes follows internal coding standards.
  • Document corresponding applications’ design, purpose, and usage.
Analysis and design
  • Perform applications analysis and design.
  • Ensure that software applications follow the internal architecture standards.
  • Ensure web applications follow industry best practices.
Test and troubleshoot
  • Design and conduct tests.
  • Troubleshoot development and production problems.
  • Support users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
General Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all processes are documented as per ISO 9001 standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the CEO, COO, and the Head of Value Added Services.


4) Competencies



  • Ability to set up a LAMP stack.
  • Conversant with using Java and productivity frameworks.
  • Conversant with test-driven development.
  • Conversant with RESTful APIs.
  • Effective use of Integrated Development Environments (IDE).
  • Effective use of Source Control Management systems.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command-line interfaces.
  • Familiarity with code review practices.
  • Knowledge in Scrum Methodology
  • Knowledge of additional languages (for example, Perl, Python, or others) is a plus.
