1) Job Background

 

(A) Job Purpose/Mission of Role

A Trainer is one of AFRINIC's core roles. As part of a team that delivers training on the technology on which AFRINIC's work is based, the trainer is An ambassador for AFRINIC Ltd. an African Internet community leader and role model. 

The Training Unit is part of the Capacity Building department and is responsible for developing and delivering training workshops to AFRINIC's members and the African Internet community. The unit delivers workshops (face to face and online) on Internet Number Resources Management and deployment as well as IPv6 certifications.

(B) Essential Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Four-year degree in an Internet-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two years of experience in either a networking, systems administration or IT (networking and systems) trainer role.
  • Networking certification at the Cisco CCNP Routing & Switching level
  • Intermediate-level skills in Unix-type operating systems
  • Occasional international travel where required.Ability to teach and coach learners

3) Key Responsibilities

  • Organise and deliver workshops along with the training team
  • Organise and deliver tutorials on relevant topics to specific stakeholders
  • Deliver training programs in English and or French on-site and possibly online
  • Continuously enhance technical instructional delivery and presentation skills.
  • Mentor other trainers in the subject matter, content, and course delivery techniques for assigned technical courses.

(2) Course Design
  • Create and maintain content according to the company’s strategic plan 
  • Assess training needs and develop a training course to address those needs
  • Design and create training content: course outlines, slides, lab manuals, illustrations etc
  • Research and keep abreast of the latest knowledge areas in Internet technology

(3) Evaluation and Reporting
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of course content throughout a course life cycle.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using various methods
  • Write reports on each training delivered

(4) General Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all processes are clearly documented as per ISO 9001 standards and other standards as agreed
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned by the HOD and CEO.

4) Competencies

 

Technical
  • Knowledge and experience equivalent to CCNP and LPIC-2
  • Ability to independently research and implement technology without supervision
  • Excellent communication skills – writing, speaking and presentations
  • Highly organised and can work without supervision
Behavioural
