AFRINIC- 20, our 20th Public Policy Meeting will be held from 4 – 6 June 2014 in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti, during the Africa Internet Summit (AIS) 2014.

The AIS takes place from the 25 May to 6 June 2014 and this year’s theme is Beyond Connection: Internetworking for African Development. The summit provides a platform for participants to share and spread Internet-related knowledge pertinent to the African region and where key development issues faced by Africa can be discussed.

Find out more about the AIS at: http://internetsummitafrica.org/

The AFRINIC-20 Meeting consists of various technical training workshops and a dedicated day for Internet Operators in the African region: the Africa Operators’ Day (AfOPs). Operators provide insights on the various challenges and opportunities, and share relevant experiences on ICT technical and business related issues. AfOPs is followed by two days of plenaries where the African ICT community will come together to discuss Internet policy issues and Internet number resource management in the African region. In addition, internationally renowned speakers deliver presentations on relevant technical and Internet governance issues. The meeting also gives AFRINIC an opportunity to meet with its members and the community as well as to present updates about its activities and operations.

As is customary, there will be several elections held in our community during 2014 as follows:

  • 06/2014: AFRINIC Board (3 seats - Indian Ocean, Central Africa and Non-Geo)
  • 06/2014: Policy Development Working Group: 1 co-Chair.
  • 11/2014: NRO-NC/ICANN ASO AC (1 Representative)

Per Section 9 of the AFRINIC by-laws, a Nominations Committee (NomCom) appointed by the Board must work to ensure that appropriate candidates are nominated to contest for open seats and that all elections are successfully conducted according to current procedures.

The NomCom shall be composed of 4 members as follows:

  • 1 member selected from within the AFRINIC Board
  • 3 members selected by the AFRINIC Board from the community.

We are now looking for volunteers from the community to fill the three open positions on the 2014 NomCom. For fairness, volunteers are expected to not be from a region where a Board seat is up for renewal.
