The Fund for Internet Research and Education (FIRE) and AFRINIC is pleased to announce the 2013 Grantees.

These 11 projects have been selected and will receive a financial support of USD 10,000 as a reward for their contribution and promotion of Innovation on Access Provision, E-Developemnt and Freedom of Expression.

AFRINC has teamed up with numerous organisations and groups in Africa in attempts to promote access to affordable broadband in Africa through television channels.


Under the ambit of TV White Spaces, the organisations including Google, Internet Society, Microsoft, and the Association for Progressive Communications have organised a two-day (30-31 May 2013) forum in Dakar, Senegal, where issues relating to the expansion and provision of broadband Internet using television signals are being discussed.

AFRINIC is due to conduct elections to fill three positions on the Board. The election for Seats 1, 2 and 7 on the Board will be conducted at the Annual General Members' Meeting (AGMM) scheduled for 21 June 2013 in Lusaka, Zambia.

The AGMM will be held immediately after the official closure of the Africa Internet Summit due to the held in Lusaka starting June 9.

Members have been urged to take an active part in the elections to ensure the best candidates interested in advancing the vision and mission of the organisation are elected to serve on the nine-member Board.
